Our Service
Service has always been at the core of the Kitchen’s operations and by providing hot nutritious meals on a daily basis to those in need we fill a vital community void. We provide our patrons, and all who enter our doors, a safe space where fellowship and community are encouraged and where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. Community meal service Anyone in need is welcome at GNCK where we serve hot, nutritious meals 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Monday through Friday our doors open at 4:30pm and the community meal is served from 5:30-6:30pm. On weekends, the community meal is served from 5:00-6:00pm. ProducemobileGNCK’s "Producemobile" food distribution program occurs at GNCK - 7649 N. Paulina - on the 3rd Monday of each month from 9:30am to 1:00pm. In cooperation with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Producemobile provides fresh fruit, vegetables and other foods to families in need. This is the only regular food giveaway program we operate. The amount of foods we distribute via the Producemobile can be quite heavy and often exceeds 30-40 pounds of food per family. Therefore, we encourage families to bring their own boxes, a wagon or a cart. In case of last minute schedule changes, we recommend that all persons interested in receiving food from the Producemobile call our office the Friday before the scheduled distribution date. Free lunch programs GNCK is located in a community where many families struggle to meet daily needs and where some children rely on school lunches as their only meal of the day. To fill this void during the summer when school is not in session, GNCK provides free lunches to all school age children from June through August. In addition, we serve free lunches during long holiday and spring breaks. Check this website or call GNCK to learn when the 2007 summer lunch program will begin. After school snack program In partnership with local community after school programs, GNCK provides snacks to community youth at two locations. The "Greensleeves" after school program is operated by the Howard Area Community Center and meets at Gale Community Academy. The Starfish Learning Center is located on Howard St. and together GNCK provides approximately 60 after school snacks to these two programs Monday through Friday. For website questions, please contact Suzanne Seme at sseme@transunion.com.
